Crazy Stunt Fisherman Catches Marlin from His Surfboard [Video]

Man Catching Marlin From His Surfboard

For most people, fishing is a time to relax. This guy is not most people.

While any encounter with a big game fish is a true test of a man’s measure, Matt ups the ante in this video by going mano a mano with a marlin while precariously perched on top of a surf board.

You heard me, a surf board…

Stunt fisherman, Matt Watson, has made a name for himself coming up with extreme ways to catch big fish. The New Zealand native is perhaps most widely known for being the only man to have ever caught a marlin by diving on top of it from a helicopter. I cringe to imagine what shenanigans the man could come up with if he took up, say, monster-truck racing.

What really stands out in the video (aside from the fish towing Matt across the ocean as he stands triumphantly upright upon his board) is the obvious amount of respect Matt has for the fish. He manages to keep up a constant commentary of the fishes grace and power, and ensures that the fish is released in a responsible manner. One can easily draw comparison to the legendary Steve Erwin, who used his crazy antics to raise conservation awareness for the animals he knew on an up-close and personal level.

Check it out for yourself. Just be advised that neither Mr. Watson nor the staff at Red Tuna accept any responsibility for injuries sustained as a result of viewers attempting to one-up Matt’s catch!
