Capt. Mike Biffel is a 30 year veteran of the Florida Keys, and has fished everywhere from Key Biscayne to the Dry Tortugas and throughout the Everglades. His charter business, Big Dawg Sportfishing out of Capt. Hooks Marina in Marathon, is one of the top choices to experience the very best of the Keys.

Capt. Biffel is an authority on the many reefs and wrecks off of Marathon, and offers a variety of trips depending on what species you’d like to target. Offshore, Big Dawg will primarily target mahi, king mackerel, sailfish and blackfin tuna, with cobia, wahoo, and marlin being possibilities on any given day. Most charters are also going to fill the box will tasty fish for the dinner table including mutton snapper, yellowtail snapper, mangrove snapper, gag grouper, red grouper, and black grouper.

Offshore trips take place aboard Big Dawg, a Sea-Vee 34 Z powered by triple Yamaha 300s. Anglers looking for inshore fishing can hop aboard Little Dawg, a 23′ Pathfinder. Inshore fishing can target tarpon, permit, snook and snapper.

Capt. Biffel specializes in light tackle techniques, using 8lb, 10lb, 12lb, 16lb, 20lb and 30lb line. Big Dawg features only the best equipment, with St. Croix rods and Shimano reels. And let’s not forget one of the most important tools – Capt. Biffel enjoys filling his live wells with pilchards, threadfins, shrimp, ballyhoo and blue runners to make sure that every day is an awesome day in the Florida Keys.
