Spanish Wells is a small island community just off the coast of the more famous island of Eleuthera, and visiting anglers will quickly discover what a hidden gem it is. Life here still moves at the pace of the tides, and the surrounding waters remain as productive as they are beautiful. It is within this setting that Captain Ryan, a native son of Spanish Wells, welcomes guests aboard Spanish Wells Fishing.
The variety of fishing available in these waters is striking. On the shallow flats, bonefish glide like silver shadows, demanding patience and precision from those who pursue them with fly or light tackle. Along the reefs, bright schools of snapper, hard-fighting grouper, and prowling barracuda provide steady action and something for the dinner table. Offshore, deeper waters can hold tuna, wahoo, mahi, marlin and other pelagics, giving anglers a chance at big-water adventure just minutes from shore.
Captain Ryan has been fishing these waters for more than three decades, first as a commercial lobster fisherman and now as a full-time charter captain. His experience is evident in the way he reads the tides, the winds, and the subtle movements of baitfish. In addition to bonefish and reef trips, he also offers spearfishing charters, including for spiny lobster—a fishery that has long defined the character of Spanish Wells itself.
Charters are run aboard a comfortable, well-equipped boat, but what stands out most is the authenticity of the experience. Guests are not just fishing; they are stepping into the traditions of a community that has been shaped by the sea for generations.
Just being in Spanish Wells and heading out in the morning amidst the incredible white sands and turquoise flats will seem like a dream, but chances are the day will get even better as soon as you start wetting lines with Captain Ryan.
